Vincent Pastore, the actor known for playing Salvatore “Big P****y” Bonpensiero on The Sopranos, has died at age 80.
Pastore was found dead at his home in the Bronx on Saturday, August 1. A close friend discovered him after not hearing from him for a few days. Early Life and Career
Pastore was born in the Bronx on July 14, 1946. Before becoming an actor, he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he studied drama at Pace University in New York City.
He didn’t break into acting until later in life. During the early 1990s, Pastore landed small roles in well-known crime films such as “Goodfellas,” “Carlito’s Way,” and “Men of Respect.” His career picked up in 1995 with “The Jerky Boys, The Movie,” followed by the HBO film “Gotti” in 1996. That project connected him with several future “Sopranos” co-stars, including Tony Sirico and Dominic Chianese.
His Breakout Role on The Sopranos
Pastore’s biggest role came in 1999, when he joined the main cast of HBO’s “The Sopranos.” He played Salvatore “Big P****y” Bonpensiero, a mob enforcer and longtime friend of Tony Soprano. Fans watched his character appear in 30 episodes before a major twist changed everything.
In the Season 2 finale, viewers learned that “Big P****y” had secretly been an FBI informant. As a result, Tony and two other characters killed him in one of the show’s most talked-about scenes. Even though his time on the show ended early, Pastore remained closely tied to the series and its legacy for years afterward. In 2000, he and his fellow cast members won a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding ensemble in a drama series.

He took on roles in films like “Shark Tale,” where he voiced the character Luca, along with “Money Train” and “Two Family House.” On television, he appeared in shows such as “Hawaii Five-0,” “Wu-Tang, An American Saga,” and more recently, “Yellowjackets.”
He also became a familiar face on reality TV. Pastore competed on “Dancing with the Stars,” though he left after just one week due to the physical demands of the show. He later joined “Celebrity Apprentice” as well.
