Delta Cuts Routes in a Big Winter Shakeup

Delta Air Lines is cutting several routes this winter, with the first last flights on November 8. The changes hit Las Vegas and New York travelers the hardest.
Key Points
- Two Las Vegas routes end November 8 and a LaGuardia to Tulsa route ends November 9.
- Two more New York routes from John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport end December 19.
- Delta says it will contact affected customers directly about their bookings.
Which Delta Routes Are Being Cut?
The Points Guy reported five route cuts for the winter season. Here are the last scheduled flights.
| Route | Last flight |
|---|---|
| Las Vegas to San Diego | November 8 |
| Las Vegas to Orange County, California | November 8 |
| New York LaGuardia to Tulsa | November 9 |
| New York JFK to Palm Springs | December 19 |
| New York JFK to Milwaukee | December 19 |
Delta will also pause its JFK to Orange County route after November 29, Bolt Flight reported. Flights are set to return on May 6, 2027.
Why Delta Is Making These Cuts
Delta said it “continually evaluates its network” to match customer demand. For Las Vegas, a spokesperson pointed to lower travel demand this winter.
Las Vegas has seen fewer visitors lately. Visitor numbers fell 7.5% in 2025 compared with 2024, according to The Points Guy.
Departures from Las Vegas are also down about 7% this winter compared with last year. Airlines often trim routes when too many seats go unsold.
Planes and crews can then move to busier routes where tickets sell faster. That helps the airline earn more from each flight it operates.
What If You Already Booked One of These Flights?
Delta said it will reach out to affected customers. “We apologize for any inconvenience,” the airline said.
If Delta cancels your flight, you have options. The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) sets clear refund rules. If the airline cancels and you choose not to travel, you can get your money back.
You can read the full rules on the department’s refunds page. You can also manage your trip on the Delta website.

Are There Other Ways to Fly These Routes?
Yes, for some of them. Delta still runs four daily round trips between LaGuardia and Milwaukee.
Delta also plans limited Las Vegas flights to San Diego and Orange County in early January. Those flights will serve people heading to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
American Airlines will keep flying between JFK and Orange County during Delta’s pause. Other airlines also serve Las Vegas from Southern California.
Why It Matters for Holiday Travelers
The cuts arrive just before the busy Thanksgiving and Christmas travel season. Fewer nonstop flights can mean higher fares or longer trips with a stop.
Travelers in Tulsa, Palm Springs and Milwaukee may need to connect through another city. That can add hours to a trip, especially when winter storms cause delays.
Experts usually suggest booking holiday flights early. Leaving extra time between connecting flights also helps if bad weather slows things down.
If you fly often from these cities, compare other airlines too. Prices can change quickly once a competitor leaves a route.
