Paris Space Mountain Is Getting a Big Revamp

Disneyland Paris is bringing back its original Space Mountain story. The Star Wars ride closes at the end of 2027, and the Jules Verne moon ride will return.

Key Points

• Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain will close at the end of 2027 for several months of work and upgrades.
• The ride will return as Space Mountain De la Terre a la Lune, meaning “From the Earth to the Moon.”
• The original 1995 music by Steve Bramson is coming back, along with new effects.

What Disney Announced

Disney revealed the plan in August 2026 at D23, the company’s official fan event, during its Disney Experiences Showcase. Laughing Place reported the news from the event.

The ride sits in Discoveryland, the park’s version of Tomorrowland. Discoveryland has a unique look inspired by old ideas of the future, with brass, gears and rivets.

The new version will match that style. Its story will focus on an imagined age of the very first trips to the Moon.

That is a big shift from the current ride. Today, riders join a Star Wars space battle with starfighters and loud blasters.

What Is Changing on the Ride

This is not a simple copy of the 1995 ride. Disney says it will include fresh sets, props and special effects.

Here is what fans can expect, based on Disney’s announcement.

• Restored indoor sets and props
• A new queue where guests can again watch the trains launch
• New effects and scenic details
• The return of the original theme music

Keith Rector of Walt Disney Imagineering Paris called the project “both an honor and an exciting challenge.”

A Short History of Paris Space Mountain

Space Mountain opened in Paris in 1995. Its story came from Jules Verne’s 1865 novel about firing a capsule to the Moon from a giant cannon.

The ride was faster and wilder than other Space Mountains. It had loops and a launch that shot riders up into the dark dome.

The giant Columbiad cannon outside became one of the most famous sights in the park. Many longtime fans still proudly call this version the best Space Mountain ever built.

It later became Space Mountain Mission 2. In 2017, Disney turned it into Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, according to Riding the Magic.

When Will the New Ride Open?

Disney has not given an opening date yet. Some fan sites expect a 2028 return, but that is not official.

Hyperspace Mountain stays open until the closure starts. That means fans still have time to ride the Star Wars version.

Work of this size often takes many months. Disney also installed a new dome lighting system in 2025, which the revamped ride will use.

You can check ride times and park news on the official Disneyland Paris website.
