Avengers Doomsday Release Date and the Big Details

Avengers Doomsday is coming to theaters on December 18, 2026. The film brings back Robert Downey Jr. to Marvel, this time as the villain Doctor Doom.

Key Points

• The movie opens worldwide on Friday, December 18, 2026.
• Joe and Anthony Russo, who made Avengers Endgame, are directing.
• The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal and many more.

When Does Avengers Doomsday Come Out?

Avengers Doomsday opens on December 18, 2026, TechRadar reported. That puts it right before the Christmas holidays.

Marvel moved the film from its earlier 2026 date to give the team more time. The next film, Avengers Secret Wars, is set for December 2027.

Who Is in the Cast?

The film has one of the biggest casts in Marvel history. TechRadar counts about 30 confirmed actors.

Downey played Iron Man for over a decade. His return as a villain is one of the biggest surprises in recent Marvel history.

Marvel surprised many fans when it announced the casting in 2024. Iron Man died in Avengers Endgame, so Downey needed a brand-new role to come back.

What Is the Story About?

Marvel’s official story summary says heroes “from three distinct universes” will be set on a deadly collision course. The plot centers on incursions, which happen when whole universes crash into each other.

Doctor Doom is the main villain. Most other plot details are still secret.

In the comics, Doom is a genius ruler from the small nation of Latveria. He is one of the most famous enemies of the Fantastic Four. That helps explain why the team plays such a big part here.

The Fantastic Four join the Avengers for the first time on the big screen. Fans met them earlier in The Fantastic Four First Steps.

Trailers So Far

The first official trailer arrived in July 2026. A second trailer followed on August 14 at D23, Disney’s official fan event.

Both trailers kept many details hidden. They focused on Doom and the heroes preparing for a huge fight.

You can watch trailers and find updates on the official Marvel website. Space.com also tracks news about the film.

What Comes After Doomsday?

Marvel has set Avengers Secret Wars for December 2027. It will close out this part of the Marvel story.

After that, Marvel plans new films such as X-Men in May 2028. Black Panther 3 follows in December 2028, according to TechRadar.

That means Doomsday is a key step toward a fresh start for the whole series.

Should You Catch Up First?

You do not need to watch every Marvel film before Doomsday. Still, a few recent movies can help.

The Fantastic Four First Steps introduces Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben. Loki’s series on Disney+ also explains the multiverse ideas that matter here.
