Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movie now has a firm release date. The Magician’s Nephew opens in theaters worldwide February 12, 2027, then streams on Netflix April 2.

Key Points

The film opens in theaters, including IMAX (Image Maximum), on February 12, 2027.
It arrives on Netflix about seven weeks later, on April 2, 2027.
Meryl Streep, Daniel Craig and Carey Mulligan are among the stars.

When Does the Narnia Movie Come Out?

The film opens in theaters around the world on February 12, 2027, according to Netflix Tudum. Special IMAX sneak previews begin two days earlier, on February 10.

It then moves to Netflix for streaming at home on April 2, 2027, as planned. That gives the film about seven weeks in theaters first.

The movie was first planned for Thanksgiving 2026. Netflix later moved it to February 2027 with a wider theatrical release, JoBlo reported.

Good to know. The Chronicles of Narnia series has seven books and has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.

What Is the Story About?

The Magician’s Nephew is a prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. C.S. Lewis published the book in 1955.

It tells how the magical land of Narnia began. Magic rings pull two children into other worlds, where they witness the birth of Narnia.

This is the first time the book has become a feature film. Netflix calls it “a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages.”

Who Is in the Cast?

Netflix has named a strong cast. Newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell lead the film as the two young heroes.

Meryl Streep
Daniel Craig
Carey Mulligan
Emma Mackey
Ciaran Hinds
Denise Gough
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith
Susan Wokoma

Netflix has not yet shared every character name. More details may come with the full trailer.

Casting two newcomers as the leads follows a long tradition. Many family fantasy films, including the earlier Narnia movies, cast unknown young actors in key roles.

Who Is Making the Film?

Greta Gerwig wrote the screenplay and directed the movie herself. She is known for Lady Bird, Little Women and Barbie, which became a global box office hit.

Netflix handles the theatrical release in North America. Sony Pictures distributes the film in theaters in other parts of the world.

This is a big step for Netflix. The company rarely gives its films such a wide run in theaters first. The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) news site reported on the plan.

Most Netflix movies play in only a few theaters for a short time. A full worldwide release with IMAX screens shows how much the company believes in this film.
