What Is Ramayana Part 1 About?

The film retells the Ramayana, one of India’s oldest and most loved epics. It follows Prince Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshman.

Nitesh Tiwari directed the film. He also made the hit wrestling drama Dangal.

The story is split into two films. Part 1 tells the first half of the epic, and Part 2 will finish the story for audiences later.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, and Sai Pallavi plays Sita. Yash, known for the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) films, plays the demon king Ravana, and Sunny Deol plays Hanuman.

Good to know. The Ramayana is an ancient Sanskrit epic traditionally credited to the sage Valmiki. Diwali celebrates Rama’s return home in many parts of India.

What Do Early Numbers Tell Us?

Hindi shows brought in most of the money, which is normal for a Bollywood release. The film ran about 25,200 shows across India on its first day.

Southern markets also gave strong support. Yash’s huge fan base in Karnataka helped the Kannada version earn the second-highest total.

Trade experts often watch the first weekend closely. Strong word of mouth during Diwali could push the film much higher in the days ahead.

Why It Matters

Diwali falls on November 8 this year. Opening a few days earlier gives the film a long festival weekend.

Families often go to the movies together during Diwali. That makes it one of the busiest weeks of the year for Indian cinema.

The film runs about 3 hours and 15 minutes and has a U certificate, Esquire India reported. A U certificate means it is fine for all ages.

Oscar winners AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer created the score together.

The reported Rs 4,000 crore budget covers both parts of the story, plus marketing and worldwide release costs. That makes it one of the most expensive Indian film projects ever.

Sony Pictures handles the international release. Visual effects company DNEG, which has won several Oscars, is part of the production.

When Is Ramayana Part 2?

Filming on Part 2 reportedly began in March 2026. The makers have not yet confirmed its release date.
